The South Yorkshire Police Band is proud to announce its entry into the North East Midlands Brass Band Association February Area Piece Contest, competing in the First Section. For this important pre regionals contest, the band will present Variations on “Was Lebet” by Andrew Wainwright.

A work of depth and character, Wainwright’s score draws on the expressive chorale Was lebet, was schwebet, transforming its noble melodic material through a series of imaginative and technically demanding variations. The piece challenges bands to demonstrate control, musical maturity, and stylistic awareness, balancing moments of reflective lyricism with energy and precision.

Under the guidance of its Musical Director Leigh Baker, the South Yorkshire Police Band looks forward to showcasing its commitment to high-quality performance as it takes to the stage for its return to the First Section in 2026.
