Welcome to the South Yorkshire Police Band, home of championship-winning performances, incredible musicianship, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

We currently have vacancies for Cornet Players and  Trombone Player. Whether you're an experienced player or looking to get back into banding, we would love to hear from you!

🎺 Cornet Players

We have openings for Cornet Players. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals who are ready to join our fantastic cornet section and work alongside our talented Principal Cornet, Brian Winter.

🎼Trombone Vacancy

We also seek a dedicated Trombone Player.  Position negotiable 

This is an excellent opportunity to join a championship-winning band under the expert guidance of our Musical Director, Leigh Baker.

📖 About the Band

Based in Hellaby, Rotherham, near to Jct1 M18

We rehearse Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8 pm to 10 pm in excellent air-conditioned facilities.

The South Yorkshire Police Band is a traditional British brass band comprising:

  • Bb Cornets
  • Eb Soprano Cornet
  • Flugelhorn
  • Tenor Horns
  • Baritones
  • Euphoniums
  • Trombones
  • Bass/Tuba Eb and Bb
  • Tuned and Kit Percussion

We are current Second Section National, Yorkshire Regional and Leicestershire Brass Band Association Champions and have secured Promotion to the First Section in 2026. 

We perform music on behalf of South Yorkshire Police. Our schedule is well-balanced, featuring traditional concerts, contests, civic ceremonial gatherings, and awards ceremonies.

In addition to our full band, we have a 10-piece group and a heraldic fanfare team performing at civic ceremonies and special events.

🎤 Recent Performances:

  • Barnsley Hospice Light up a Life Service
  • National Police Public Bravery Awards
  • Multiple events at Sheffield Cathedral, Cutlers' Hall, and St. George's Park (the home of English Football)

We predominantly perform in South Yorkshire – including Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, and Sheffield – but we also participate in performances further afield.

 What We Provide:

  • Air-conditioned rehearsal facilities
  • All uniforms, instruments, and equipment
  • No subscription costs for members
